Happy Summer. Enjoy this much needed time to rest and relax. It has been a remarkable year. We have enjoyed our first year using Renaissance Place and having the ability to access over 100,000 AR tests. This year the students in our school were able to earn over 10,000 AR points. The top point earners in the school , who earned the reward of being Principal and Assistant Principal of the Day were Delia Brennan and Nick Powell. Mrs. Moore’s fifth grade class was the top point earning class. Congratulations to all who worked so hard to achieve so much. Remember that if you want to check whether a book is an AR book, just go to www.arbookfind.com and enter the necessary information. It’s that easy.

This was the third year our grade 3-8 students participated in the Sunshine State Young Readers Award program. Forty-nine students participated and enjoyed the nominated books. Most of these students were able to vote for their favorite and helped select this years’ winners – The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane for grades 3-8 and The Lightning Thief for grades 6-8. Those students who read 10 or more books were invited to a special luncheon generously catered by Bob Evans.  The students played games, painted a craft and had the chance to discuss their favorite books. The list of nominated books for next year is available at www.myssyra.org  You will also find lists from previous years with other great books you might enjoy.

So have a fun summer and  make reading a part of it.  The Lee County Public Library has many great  summer programs that are exciting and different. Check it out. See you in August!
