Middle School Religion

Middle school religion is a continuation of instruction from primary school religion study. However, in middle school the students are asked to develop a deeper understanding of their role in their own spiritual development. As students progress from the primary grades to middle school, they develop academically, physically and socially. They should also continue to grow in their spiritual development. At St. Andrew we strive to create a responsible Catholic Community of young people. That is we not only develop our individual gifts and talents, but also realize we are called to share those gifts and talents with others. Our religious instruction calls students to both goals. Those of full growth of potential and the duty of sharing what one has been blessed with. These goals can be achieved through a deeper understanding of the teachings of Jesus and a personal experience of the Holy Spirit in one’s life. All middle school teachers have a specific subject matter and curriculum to instruct to their students. Whether science, mathematics, language arts, or social studies, each discipline is important and critical to every student’s progress. At the heart of each curriculum is our Catholic religion and identity. All teachers at St. Andrew are first and foremost religion teachers. Through academic instruction and personal examples through modeling, all teachers convey the reason for our school’s existence and our duty to our students, the appreciation of walking the path of Jesus’ life – to serve. It is the reason for all we do, and why we seek to do all things to the best of our ability. Our ultimate goal is the students’ understanding of our faith giving meaning to life, when our life is lived in the faith.

Sixth & Eighth Grade – Religion

This course will prepare the students to live a “Life of Faith” by motivating them to embrace the teachings of Catholic Social Justice and ready themselves to live it in their own lives. With age appropriate instruction, students will discover and connect with the need of both individuals and society of faith based service.
